Halfway on the main road between Paris and Lyon, L'Hostellerie de la Poste has been, since 1707, the main stopover of coach lines taking travellers from the North to the South of France. From Napoleon to General Eisenhower, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and J.F.Kennedy - numerous were the celebrities who slept there and enjoyed its famous local cuisine, the restaurant appearing in the first Guide Michelin in 1900 to date. All the rooms are differently and attractively furnished (and you can even choose the room in which Napoleon slept). Two of the rooms have balconies. There is a small garden behind the Hostellerie and there are lots of walks to the historic centre of Avallon. There is a comfortable bar, lounge and restaurant with a gracious ambience that conveys the essence of fine dining. The welcome is warm and friendly from the multi-lingual staff. Avallon is a historic town with a variety of shopping and a number of walking tours, and only a short distance from Vezelay, home to the famous Basilique de la Madeleine.
Family Information
Less than 3 years old, free. Children sharing suite or duplex are free. There are suites which can accommodate up to two children, but not more. The cost for a children 4 and up is 23 Euros (per child).
Meal Information
There is a gastronomic restaurant which is open for dinner, except Sunday and Monday. There is a casual brasserie which is open for lunch, and there is a breakfast room. Please let us know if you would like dinner on the night of your arrival. Appx. 35Eu/person
Notes There are numerous restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The restaurant is closed Sunday night and all Monday (except for breakfast) There is secure free parking at the hotel.
