Built in 1937, this unique villa is a perfect example of Art Déco architecture in the Bayeux area. In the heart of the old town and close to museums, restaurants and shops, this newly-created small inn is a perfect base from which to explore this interesting town. There are three rooms types: superior (generously sized rooms with a queen size bed, with either a balcony or a small terrace with view of the Cathedral), comfort (bright rooms with original architectural features, spacious bathrooms, with double bed) and classic (cosy rooms decorated in soft colors, equipped with small bright modern bathrooms and with either a French double or twin beds). All rooms have satellite television including BBC, CNN, SkyNews, Eurosport - and programming in French, Spanish, Italian and German. There is a small lounge for guests with free WiFi access and a balcony with seating. Note that all the rooms are on the first and second floor of the Castel and there is not an elevator. Breakfast only is served at the Castel, but there are many restaurants in the vicinity.
Meal Information
There a many restaurants in the area.
Notes
Bayeux Tapestry, a 3 minute walk from Le Castel. American cemetery a 15 minute to drive from Le Castel. The Bayeux Tapestry is listed as a “Memory of the World” by UNESCO. Made in the eleventh century, it is 70 metres long and celebrates the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy. The linen canvas was probably embroidered by monks in the south of England after the Battle of Hastings on October 14th, 1066. Legendary animals, ships, Vikings, Norman and Saxon cavalries illustrate the exploits of William and his opponent Harold, another pretender to the throne of England.
