Chateau de Bournand, with parts dating back to the eleventh century, is located in the small village of Bournand and is quietly nestled in a walled seven acre park with lovely gardens. In this peaceful setting, enjoy the charm of this elegant country chateau with just five ensuite guestrooms. The five bedrooms (four are suites), three salons, French country breakfast room, reception room and dining cave have been very recently renovated. Rooms are warm and tastefully decorated with antiques, oriental and needlepoint carpets, ancient tiles, hardwood floors, artwork, and lovely fabrics, all incorporating modern bathrooms. The fortified town of Chinon (ten minutes away), with its hilltop castle ruin and a charming ribbon of a village, and the Abbey of Fontevraud, where the Plantaganet kings and queens of England and France, and Richard the Lionhearted are buried. The friendly and knowledgeable hosts, who speak French and perfect English, live in a separate home on the grounds and will gladly help you plan your activities. Table d'Hote is available upon request, and may be served outside in the garden. This is a wonderful base from which to explore the pleasures and history of the Loire Valley, a land of rich vineyards, beautiful gardens and of course magnificent chateaux. In this region, where Kings and Queens built their grand chateaux, where Joan of Arc traveled to meet Charles VII and where the mild climate, nature and farms combine to crown it "the breadbasket of France", this river valley may truly be called the heart and soul of France.
Notes Chinon's wines are one of the most popular in Paris. Saumur is famous for their non champagne sparkling wines, both white and red, and Bourgueil also offers great red wines. The whites of Vouvray and the Chenin Blanc grown south of Angers are also favorites of wine lovers everywhere. Most of the hundreds of vineyard caves are open for tasting. During the summer, classical concerts are held in chateaux and converted barns, troglodyte caves and Romanesque churches. In addition there are son et luminere shows, held at most of the chateaux.

Our Feedback
Rating: Excellent “Liked: The most important thing is to like your hosts and ours were absolutely fantastic. We loved staying there and hope to return in the future. Didn't Like: It was just a bit hard to find because the signs in the township call it The Celtic Gardens and we were looking for Chateau de Bournand.” Rating: Excellent “(No Comment)” Rating: Excellent “(No Comment)”
