In Languedoc in the south of France is the thousand year old village of Caux. This special little hotel with its shaded courtyard and fountain, is the perfect place for a relaxing break. The house is a 19th century bourgeois maison de maitre which retains many of its original features like the hand-gilded salon in the salon, marble fireplaces stone staircase and terrazzo floors. Each of the three suites is unique and comfortable, with an pleasing mix of antique French with wonderful contemporary. In the en-suite bathrooms (with walk-in rain shower), heated towel rail and WC, L’Occitaine toiletries, robes, slippers and hair dryer are provided. Continental breakfast is included in the price of your suite or choose the daily special which could be anything from ultra healthy local fruit smoothies to not quite so healthy full English. Table D’Hotes is available four times a week (prices from 25-29 euros )including wine and aperitif from a barbeque buffet to four courses with canapés. Please reserve at least 24 hours in advance. Notes The heart of Caux dates back to the 10th century with the Church being recorded on the “Livre Noir” in 1172. Like many medieval villages, Caux was built to a circular plan with the church at the highest point in the centre with the later 18th and 19th developments radiating out in concentric circles. Grand Rue is one of the 18th century roads in the centre of the village.
