In a small Norman valley, the Château de la Roque is hidden at the end of an elegant walk bordered with poplar trees. This small castle built during the XVIIth century sits in the middle of a flowered park (complete with ponds with ducks and geese). It has a quiet, friendly and warm atmosphere and at dinner time you can join the hosts table where you will enjoy the homemade products and home-baked breads. The pretty rooms are uniquely decorated (all ensuite of course) and have television, direct phone, hairdryer and welcome tray. A very pleasant place to relax (thanks to a new spa and fitness center), take daily exursions, enjoy the countryside on a bike or take a walk. A recent client commented that the owners and their staff made their stay very comfortable and memorable and thoroughly recommend it. Please note the location of this hotel is Hebecrevon in the Caen area.

The only comment I would make is that the information stated that English language would be spoken. Out of 3 persons in the party one was unable to speak French and it rather isolated her at mealtimes. In everything else we were very happy with the service, food was excellent and the atmosphere extremely convivial.

A beautiful setting, clean and well furnished rooms. Food excellent and Mr & Mrs Delisle (and staff) very friendly and accommodating. Would definately recommend.

The hosts were wonderful,as was the breakfast and optional dinner. The ambiance of staying at a French chateau in the countryside was all there. Our room worked well with our family of 5. We appreciated the close proximity to both coastlines. Have already recommended it to friends.

Quirky, interesting old chateau. Room could have been from a period drama. Home of a retired professional cyclist (French champion in 1969 and has worn yellow jersey in Tour de France) Unlike any standard chain.
Didn't Like:
Rooms a little musty, although this added to charm

This is a quirky chateau, set in beautiful surroundings. The room was large, and although the bathroom needed to be updated, it more than suited our needs. Sometimes, 'character' is more important than up-to-the minute style. I liked our dinners where all the guests sat at the same table - daunting at first, but great fun, and we made some nice friends. Breakfast was very good indeed.
Didn't Like:
A small point - the smell in the upstairs hallway of the main chateau (outside the bedrooms) was very musty. But that's all, and it didn't affect our stay one little bit. I know some people found the owner to be 'rude', but that isn't true. He's certainly eccentric, but not intentionally rude and we found him charming.

The place was lovely, grounds were very nice to walk around. The room was very French, fire place -non working, tile floors, nice little details around. Our section, which I would describe as in the older outlying buildings, was not plush, but very comfortable. Don't know about the rooms in the house itself. The breakfast was served in a lovely room that had been the original stables, tastefully redone and the food was excellent.
Didn't Like:
We arrived quite late following a ferry ride over from England. The gate was locked when we arrived and we had to locate someone, which entailed knocking on a door of a building where people were having dinner. A man walked out, unlocked the gate and walked away, leaving us with no idea where to go in the dark, where to park, anything. We found the parking and left our car and walked down to the main building. Someone came out and told us we could drive down to near our room to unload. It would have been nice to have had some welcoming directions when we drove in, I guess, instead of being left to figure it out, wrongly, it turns out, as we were quite tired from a full day of travel.

There was some confusion over the nature of the accommodation required but the hotel owner agreed responsibility and was very helpful and pleasant
