Some special events during 2009 - Calais and surrounding areas

12 June sees the opening of the World of Lace and Fashion in Calais.  An epic exhibition on Mria Dompe from 4 - 16 May will lead up to the opening. The exhibition retraces the history of the renowned mechanical lace of Calais and will welcome innovative fashion designers and artists from around the world

25 July is the one hundred year anniversary celebrations of Louis Bleriot's flight across the Channel.  Before and after this date numerous activities and exhibitions take place.  Full program from the Cote d'Opale Tourist office, see www.calais.cci.fr

From 27 to 31 December the Feux d'Hiver (winter lights) will be performed in the new Le Channel National Theatre.

Summer Village, at Calais Beach open every day from 27 June through 30 August. Entertainment each weekend

Sightseeing train: Visit Calais in a little train (runs July and August from the Calais Tourist office at 12 Bd Clemenceau)

Courgain Maritime Festival, 15 August. Entertainment, sea shanties and seafood sampling, jousting competition.

Festival of light. Entertainment includes a show at the lighthouse.  17 and 18 October.

The Herring Festival. Entertainment, songs, sea products sampling and jousting competition 22 November. 

Four day cycle race of Dunkirk 5 - 10 May.
