The 15th century Manoir, located in the forest some 18 km. from the sea, on the road from Dinan to Lamballe, is a little gem in the heart of Penthievre. The location is between St. Malo, Dinan and St. Brieuc, 3 hours from Paris by train. Set in a wooded 50 acre park, amidst French-style gardens, this is a lovely, and peaceful, countryside setting. Enjoy walking in the domain, with its superb collection of roses, camellias, fuschias and rhododenrons. In the Manoir there are eleven tastefully decorated en suite rooms, and two apartments. The rooms feature lush soft furnishings in perfect contrast to the wood and stone construction typical of this region. The bathrooms are spacious and well-equipped. The charming English-speaking owner (with an interesting history to tell about his Irish name and keeping the manor in the family) will advise you about possible sporting, sightseeing and cultural activities in the region. Order dinner in advance and you will be served a splendid regional meal in the hotel's lovely dining room.

The setting of Manoir du Vaumadeuc was absolutely gorgeous as was the 14th century manorhouse. Even O'Neill was a fabulous host! In addition to being able to give us lots of pertinent information about things to see and do in the area,his hospitality was warm and memorable. He shared with us some "quirks" about his family home and gardens that we found particularly interesting. I would recommend the establishment for a wedding or anniversary destination as well as for a business retreat. The gardens and grounds are lovely and peaceful and offer a relaxing opportunity to really get away. The breakfasts were also delicious. My husband and I consider the hotel a value in a luscious area of Brittany.
