This lovely Chateau is in a remote country setting far away from the hustle and bustle of the city - in the natural park of the Morvan Hills. It is located in the middle of Burgundy and just 60 KM from Beaune. The parkland setting of the estate is said to be one of the earlier examples of the work of André le Notre, famous for his designs of Versailles and Chantilly. Chateau de Villette is a private and extravagantly stylish home, formerly the playground of the French aristocracy. Recently redecorated and renovated, it has sumptuous rooms with fine bed-linens, private bathrooms, period furniture, elaborate drapery, good beds, and panoramic views. In the dining room, the cuisine is regional and very fresh and there are many very good wines from the private cellars. Enjoy a candle-lit dinner in the dining room or on one of the terraces. The Chateau has created a wildlife habitat unique in Burgundy with the help of a government subsidy. The 500 acre estate is a mass of scenic contrasts – centuries old parkland, formal terraces, beautiful woods, panoramic views, crystal clear streams, ponds and hedged fields with wildlife flourishing everywhere.
Family Information
The owners of the Chateau have children. Many of the rooms have space for an extra bed or a sofa is already in the room.
Meal Information
Breakfast only is available, but if prior notice is given 5 course traditional Burgundy dinners can be arranged for approx. 45 Euros per person. For groups at the Chateau all meals can be organized.
Notes Wine tasting and purchasing. There are many famous vineyards within easy driving distance of the chateau. Shopping for Antiques/Brocantes in the nearby villages (i.e. Autun, Nolay, Chalon sur Saone, Bourbon Lancy, Nevers). Brocantes are usually held on Sundays and some on Saturdays. Visiting local food markets in the nearby picturesque villages. So far, the best local food market is in Autun and is held on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Visiting a variety of Museums. A famous one is the museum of Saptenat where a previous president of France has his international gifts displayed. Or see the Lycee Bonaparte where Napoleon and his brothers were educated.
