Chateau de Maulmont is situated on the edge of the ancient royal forest of Randan and overlooks the Allier valley with the Bourbonnais Mountains as a backdrop. The château is close to the river Allier, and the towns of Vichy, Riom, Clermont-Ferrand and Thiers, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the Auvergne. The Chateau stands in 22 hectares of quiet parkland, where you can stroll through the woods or enjoy the outdoor swimming pool. There is also a heated indoor pool and sauna in the old vaulted cellar of the castle. Bikes are available to visit the nearby countryside and there is a playground in the park for the children. Also in the grounds is golf driving range and there are several golf courses nearby. There are six character rooms: two round rooms in the towers of the castle, to be reached via old stone circular staircases, one with a romantic old Volvic stone balcony and superb views over the Allier valley. One character room has a four-poster bed, with views over the entrance one side, and views over the Allier valley on the other side. There are ten comfort rooms, beautifully decorated and furnished and two family suites (twon connecting rooms) and one ground floor suite. Apartments and holiday homes are also available to rent. The restaurant is in the magnificent oak paneled dining room, where choices range from a menu du jour to gastronomic menus at 90€. In the summer, the restaurant is on the terrace and snacks are available during the afternoon. Please note that there is a circular staircase and no elevator to some of the rooms.

This hotel has great facilities for children. There is a play area and many large rooms that can accommodate families.

Meal Information

The gastronomic restaurant serves excellent top quality food that is beautifully presented (prices from 30E). The restaurant is open every evening for dinner and Saturday, Sunday and French Bank Holidays for lunch. Limited menus on Sunday and Monday evening and weekday lunch (except from mid July to mid August when all menus are served every evening). A buffet breakfast in the restaurant is 16 Euros per person and can be served in the room for a small surcharge. Snacks are served during the afternoon. The gastronomic restaurant serves excellent top quality food that is beautifully presented (prices from 30E). The restaurant is open every evening for dinner and Saturday, Sunday and French Bank Holidays for lunch. Limited menus on Sunday and Monday evening (except from mid July to mid August when all menus are served every evening). A buffet breakfast in the restaurant is 15 16 Euros per person and can be served in the room for a small surcharge. Snacks are served during the afternoon.

Very friendly and accomodating staff/owners. Upgraded us to a larger room, because it was available. The kitchen accomodate a light meal dispite our late arrival. Quaint and charming property the kids enjoyed exploring the secret passages and the grotto.

It was too short. To truly enjoy the surroundings we could have spend at least one more day if not two. ”
