Near Nantes, a true jewel of the Renaissance, this was once the property of the Dukes of Anjou and Bretagne. Surrounded by a 40 acre estate, the hotel's stunning interior showcases period furniture, antique tapestries, canopy beds in sumptuous guestrooms, a gourmet restaurant with a delightful menu and excellent Loire Valley wines. The South Wing dates back to the fifteenth century and the North Wing from the sixteenth century. There are twelve spacious double ensuite rooms and three suites, and the decor is reminiscent of the period: rich colours, beamed ceilings, burnished woods, soft furnishings, four poster beds - and modern bathrooms. The gastronomic restaurant, Renaissance, overlooking the moat, offers regional cuisine (menu 26 - 65 euros). Visit the old wine cellar in the Chateau and taste some extraordinary wines.

“We were put in rooms next to each other and I think these were upgraded rooms. The hotel is beautiful, inside and out. We were slightly disappointed with the food however. The portions were very small, some of the vegetables were cold (perhaps they were meant to be!) and the fairly expensive bottle of red wine we ordered was too cold to drink. We didn't change it because we assumed that all the red wine was kept in the same place and would be of a similar standard. Otherwise the hotel can not be faulted and the service was excellent.”
