This chateau is in a good location for visiting the Loire Chateaux -- Fontevraud, Chinon, Candes Saint Martin, and is a perfect base for visiting Saumur and the region. The hotel is in the center of the city but surrounded by beautiful park land and lush gardens. Within a short walk are the pedestrian streets in old Saumur, historical houses built in tuffeau stone, and the lively Saturday morning market. Verrieres once played a vital role in the region in the 19th century: built by a general in Napoleon III's Army, it was originally the residence of a grand family from the world of wines. Peacefully set in a four acre park, right in the midst of Saumur, Verrières allows you to discover the charm and history of the Loire Valley : the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, the National school of Equitation, the troglodytes caves, the historical cities of Chinon, Angers and Tours, the many chateaux of the Loire Valley. The Chateau has large reception rooms and the ten bedrooms (all with modern bathrooms) are spacious, light and charming with views either to the park or on to the Military Cavalry School. Each room is equipped with television, telephone, hair dryer, minibar, welcome tray and a kettle for tea and coffee. Most rooms have king size beds (180 x 200) but twin beds can be provided on request. As well as baths, the 8 largest rooms have a separate shower and double washbasins.All rooms are no-smoking. If you wish to enjoy dinner at the Chateau, please order in advance (38 euros pp approx). There is a heated swimming pool and secure, private parking. There is also an elevator, high speed Internet, television, golf course, horse-riding, tennis, and sailing nearby.

Interesting area with lots to see.
The Hotel in walking distance from Town but feels secluded. pool and garden well kept.
We enjoyed our stay and would recomend this Hotel.
Didn't Like:
The breakfast was expensive for what was provided. I am also not sure about the no key policy although there was a safe in room for passports etc.
mosquitos a problem at night if you have to have the window open because of heat.
France is a third more expensive than Spain for hotels and food and good hotels there are adjusting prices to the current situation. ”
